A Qualitative Meta-Analysis of the Experience of Art Therapy in Cancer Survivors

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore in depth and comprehensively the contextual meaning of cancer survivors' art therapy experiences using qualitative meta-analysis. To this end, a total of 6 qualitative studies that identified cancer survivors' art therapy experiences were analyzed according to the qualitative meta-analysis procedure of Noblit and Hare (1998). As a result of the study, the four upper categories of 'face, self-awareness, acceptance, and sublimation' and 'feeling confusion and fear after being diagnosed with cancer, having a sense of loss about what has changed, safely containing emotions, meeting the true self, and positive Nine sub-categories were drawn: ¡®Exercise one¡¯s strength, Cheer oneself, Find the value of life, Become an independent self, and Start a new life¡¯. Based on these research results, the meaning of this study was discussed and suggestions for follow-up studies were made.
